Peter F. Morgan was born in Knoxville, Tennessee but grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia in the small city of Roanoke. He received his Bachelor’s Degree magna cum laude with honors from the American University in Washington, D.C. and his law degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.
After being admitted to practice law in Virginia in 1995, Peter worked for a small law firm based in a suburb of Richmond before eventually settling down in the Charlotte area and passing the North Carolina Bar in 1998. For the first ten years of his legal career, Peter focused on litigation with an emphasis on real estate and construction law disputes. One of the significant highlights of this phase of his career was the opportunity to argue an important case on subcontractor lien rights before the North Carolina Court of Appeals. The position Peter advocated for his client was accepted by the Court of Appeals and eventually upheld by the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Ready for a change after a decade of courtroom work, Peter obtained his real estate broker’s license in 2006 and sold residential real estate for several years with Helen Adams Realty while continuing to maintain a part-time law practice. Ultimately realizing that he was better suited to providing legal counsel than sales, Peter returned to full-time law practice in 2012 and opened his own law firm. From 2012 to the present, he has focused on assisting clients with commercial and residential real estate transactions, construction law, and business formation and contract matters.
Peter is married to Ashleigh, a managing attorney with the law department for Wells Fargo Bank, and is the proud parent of two sons, Samuel and Wesley. Sam is currently a senior at Myers Park High and will be attending Columbia University in the fall, while Wesley is a middle school-er at Randolph IB. The Morgan family is actively involved with St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and its related non-profit organization, the Choir School at St. Peter’s.
In his spare time, Peter enjoys listening to music (particularly on vinyl), hiking, biking, travel, reading, and trying out new restaurants. He is currently enrolled in an intermediate-level martial arts class with Wesley at Charlotte Martial Arts Academy, and finds that punching stuff is a great stress reliever after a long day at the office.
